Update on Delaney

As many of you know this little squirt started holding her breath and passing out when she was 10 months old. Don't worry, she wasn't just sitting around and passing out--she would get mad at her brother taking a toy or start crying if she was injured and it usually progressed to breath holding and passing out. A few of you called/emailed concerns and we haven't been trying to blow it off like it's nothing. We've just been in limbo waiting for test results and consultations to finally roll around. And, they did. So here is the update:

It totally freaked us out the first couple of times it happened and then it kind of got to the point where even Maggie would see it coming and say, "Mommy, Delaney is passing out in my room." So, we just did our best to make sure she never fell and hurt herself. Over the past 5 months it has progressed, and the breath-holding even started to look a little more scary, and about 3 months ago my pediatrician referred us to a neurologist for some testing just to be on the safe side. I'm happy to report that we finally had our neurology appt. yesterday and her EEG was completely normal and she was officially diagnosed as having"Benign Breath-Holding Spells"--or as we like to call it "Drama Queen Syndrome". She is much more sensitive than her brother and gets easily worked up so we're having to really work with her to divert her attention from the passing out as best we can without indulging her with everything she wants. These spells should stop by age 4 (just a few more years to go!) so if you're ever hanging out with us and Delaney suddenly starts crying and passes out, don't freak out and call 911.

I'm also glad everything is fine. Thank you for the warning about not calling 9-1-1! I'd hate to have a Tolleson fireman knocking on our door during Thanksgiving dinner!

Glad to hear all is okay...you know we're banking on her being good and healthy since Van's got his eye on her.
